Positive: Beautiful setting. Amazing to see the elephants wondering around. Staff so friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. Breakfast with the elephants was fantastic. highly reccomend
Negative: Being in the jungle there are lots of bugs about, as you would expect, so makesure you have long sleaved tops and trousers for the evenings.

Positive: We really loved our stay, especially the activities with the elephants. It’s a great place to spend one or, at most, two days. It is particularly enjoyable for families and people who love being surrounded by nature. Don’t expect too much comfort—you just need to be prepared for a more basic experience.
Negative: No Wi-Fi, and the food selection at the restaurant was quite limited.

Negative: Nothing ! You’re in the wild your rooms are basic but that’s what you pay for ! Amazing

Positive: Chai Lai is an amazing elephant sanctuary deep in the mountains. The guides, Mahouts, drivers, accomodation staff are all local people, some of them travel 2 hours every morning just to work at this particular sanctuary because they look after their staff so well. I spent a lot of time choosing the right ethical place to visit and Chai Lai did not disappoint. Kepot our guide was amazing, so knowledgeable and great with our 8 year old in particular. The elephants always appeared to be leading things. Resting, moving and interacting in their own terms. The communication between the Mahouts & elephants is amazing to see. The staff on site were amazing when our son had an incident with a stinging caterpillar! They were so quick to provide assistance and a remedy. We really appreciated it. I would definitely recommend Chai Lai.
Negative: Only the dogs, as mentioned in other reviews. They aren't dangerous however they are covered in fleas, they go where they please including the seats outside the rooms and they bark for HOURS in the night. Non stop. I was hoping to hear the sounds of the jungle but instead heard dogs barking all through the night. They don't bark during the day. Only at night. Besides that, please read the description carefully. This is rustic accomodation. Expect bugs, wildlife & basic facilities. This is not a hotel. Embrace it for the experience.

Positive: Breakfast was good and very substantial. The staff were very kind and attentive. The elephants were so friendly and it was so special to be able to be amongst them. The baby elephant was adorable and played baby games for us on our last day. A fabulous place with real relaxed vibes.

Positive: I really loved my experience here. What I appreciated the most is how respectful and attentive they are with the elephants. It never felt like the animals were being mistreated in any way, and the caretakers are always present and very attentive during any interaction, which made me feel comfortable and reassured. The food was also delicious — everything we tried was really good. The room is what you would expect from a stay in the middle of the jungle: simple but comfortable, and it adds to the whole experience of being surrounded by nature.
Negative: The only small thing is that sometimes they encourage you quite a lot to book additional activities. It’s not a big issue, but at times it felt a bit pushy.
Summary: A unique jungle experience with beautiful elephant encounters and great food.
